How do solid state relays differ from electromechanical relays?

A solid state relay(SSR) can perform many applications that an electromechanical relay can perform. The SSR differs in that it has no moving mechanical parts. Some distinct advantages the SSR has is that when correctly used in the intended application the SSR provides a high degree of reliability. long service life, significantly reduced electromagnetic interference, fast response and high vibration resistance.

Applications of SSR's  are very wide and typically include equipment that requires high cycling rates, low acoustical or electrical noise, or high vibration resistance.
