How do I find the part # on a load center?

On the BR / CH load centers (residential panels), the actual part # for the panel is located on the inside of the panel itself.  The front door and the "dead front" cover (which covers the physical breaker with the wiring) will need to be removed.  Once completed make sure to turn off the main breaker of the panel for safety.  Then on either side of the panel there should be a label that has the panel number listed.  It should say "CAT # or Catalog #". If it is a "gray panel" then it is the BR type panel and the part # will begin with "BR".  If it is a "tan panel" then it is a CH type panel and the part # will begin with a "CH".

That part # is what is needed to determine the type of breakers that will work in the unit and also for determining a replacement cover and a mechanical interlock cover.
