Can I use a maintained signal for a shunt trip in an Eaton breaker?
Shunt trips that are included with Eaton's low voltage molded case circuit breakers can be used with a maintained control signal. The coil for the shunt trip can only withstand a momentary pulse. Each shunt trip has a built in cutoff switch (coil clearing contact) that will release voltage from the shunt trip coil once the breaker trips. If the breaker is not tripping and the correct voltage is being applied, the issue is most likely an undersized power supply for the control signal.
