Communication Adapter Modules (CAM)

The Communication Adapter Modules (CAM) are accessories that operate as a communicating device in conjunction with a compatible Series NRX or Power Defense trip unit/breaker in a master communications network.

  • PXR-ECAM-MTCP provides Ethernet with Modbus TCP/IP communications for the PXR trip units
    • This is din rail mounted remotely, then hardwired using shielded twisted pair cable to the breaker
    • Can be used with the PXR20 and PXR25 trip units in both MCCBs and ICCBs
    • Trip unit does NOT need to have native Modbus RTU communications
    • The Modbus register map is available here
    • Cycle power after changing settings so they will take effect
  • PXR-PCAM provides Profibus DP communications for the PXR trip units
    • This is din rail mounted remotely, then hardwired using shielded twisted pair cable to the breaker
    • Can be used with the PXR20 and PXR25 in both MCCBs and ICCBs
    • Trip unit does NOT need to have native Modbus RTU communications
  • The ICAM is used for INCOM communications with both Digitrip and PXR trip units
    • Can be daisy chained with Magnum 520MC or 1150 trip units and connected to the INCOM input on a Power Xpert Gateway for Ethernet output
  • The MCAM is used for Modbus RTU communications with both Digitrip and PXR trip units
  • The ECAM is used for Ethernet communications with both Digitrip and PXR trip units
  • The PCAM is used for Profibus communications with both Digitrip and PXR trip units

These modules, for the drawout type breaker with digitrip, will snap onto the DIN rail of the cassette. They are designed to install or replace the 4 contact blocks (8 contacts in total) at secondary contacts 19 through 26. The CAM can also be mounted remotely using a wiring harness:

  • Catalog number NRXCAMREMT is for use with the NRX with digitrip (520M/1150)
  • Catalog number IZMX-CAM-CAB-1 is required when using ICAM, MCAM, ECAM, or PCAM with the Power Defense ICCBs
  • PXR-ECAM-MTCP and PXR-PCAM are hardwired and do not need a wiring harness

Power requirements: 6 Watts at 24 Vdc. Each CAM module will provide the isolation required for the 24 Vdc power supply source to the trip unit and the communications interface.

The CAM allows for remotely opening and closing the breaker over communications. The communication control jumper must be in the enable position for communications opening or closing. Refer to the wiring diagrams for NRX with digitrip and Power Defense insulated case circuit breakers.
